Redondo Beach & June Gloom

I was back in Southern California this past week where I learned about something called “June Gloom”. I didn’t think California was ever gloom, however, while the rest of us are finally hitting our stride of summer days, California is overcast and even a little chilly the closer you are to the ocean. Expecting temperatures in mid-eighties I packed accordingly – lightweight romper, a pair of white capris, short sleeve blouse, etc. Big mistake for this warm weather babe!

Quick and Effective 12-Minute Workout

Hey Gang! Happy Hump Day!!

When I’m not traveling I like to do a traditional split weightlifting program, i.e. Chest/Tri’s, Back/Bi’s, etc.  When I travel, however, I’m at the mercy of what’s available to me.  For instance, last week in Arizona my workouts were more cardio focused.  I took group classes and went for a run because there aren’t any 24-hour Fitness gyms in Phoenix.  When I got home I felt like I had neglected my muscles. Strength training is so important to body transformation and overall fitness.

Back at home and back in the gym I wanted to focus on large muscle groups, and I love working chest and back together.  I performed this 12-minute routine as warm up before lifting, but it can also stand alone as a quick chest/back routine.

If you can’t take the heat, I WILL!

What I’ve learned in the almost 10 years living in Portland is that Oregonians have a perfect temperature range of 75-85 degrees.  For a city that is covered by clouds and rain for 9 months out the year, this small margin of comfort baffles me. Me, I’m an Arizona girl through and through.  My comfort temp begins at 75, if sunny, and goes right through the 100s.  Put me next to a body of water, and I’ll enjoy 115 degrees any day.  So, when work brought me back to Phoenix in June I packed my shortest running shorts, light-weight dresses, and eagerly hopped on a plane.

Treadmill Hill Workout

It’s Wednesday.  Is everyone feeling the drag of the week like I am?  Are the intentions to workout that you set on Monday starting to waver?  Does work have you stressed and fatigued?  I’m feeling it! I’ve been in Arizona since Monday, and although I treasure the time I have with my mom, I miss my family and my dogs.  So, what are we going to do to get through Hump Day?

It’s time to dig deep, push on, and do something good for yourself!  I’m confident this 20 minute treadmill routine will get you energized, strong and recommitted to your fitness goals.

Excuse me, I just burpeed!

It’s been a rough couple of weeks.  I came down with a severe case of bronchitis and was laid out for over a week.  I was forced to take time out of the gym and just sleep and eat. Resting is a very difficult thing for me to do, especially resting without going to the gym.  Despite a little lingering cough and runny nose I’m on the mend and back to my routine.  My husband and I also signed up for a Tough Mudder race in September.   Now I have something specific to train for, and you can bet I’ll be taking you along with me –  starting with this week’s burpee challenge!

Gift Ideas for the FFF Dad

 

Happy Friday!!  Is everyone as excited for the 3-day weekend as I am?  I got a jumpstart on the long weekend last night when the hubs and I went to dinner and a concert.  If you haven’t listened to Bleachers, check them out.  I’m obsessed! Speaking of my hubs, he’s also an amazing Dad, and Father’s Day is only a couple week’s away.

FullSizeRender 2Memorial Weekend is synonymous with BBQ’s, the start of summer, and sales.   I’m hoping to do a little bit of all those things this weekend.  To take advantage of the weekend sales, I thought I’d share my Father’s Day gift ideas now ahead of any bargain shopping to come.  I hope this helps spoil the special Dad in your life.

Women’s Leadership Summit – Napa

I was honored to be invited to the 2017 Women of the Channel Leadership Summit, held in beautiful Napa, CA.  I’ve always been a girl’s girl.  I enjoy being friends with women, working with women, collaborating with women and learning from women. Sadly, the workplace isn’t always conducive to such interworking female relationships. In fact, I’d venture to say it seems more designed to pin women against each other instead of support one another. If we want to raise the glass ceiling, demand equality in pay and leadership opportunities, and encourage collaboration then we have to start with each other and be stronger as a group than as individuals.

Finding Balance in an Unsteady World

It’s true what they say, “you can’t out-train a bad diet”.  At the core of every fit individual is a healthy diet.  For me that’s a diet rich in protein, carbohydrates, fat and includes a balance of indulgences, but we’ve all been on the excessive side of indulgence at one time or another.  When that happens to me I believe in a good ass-kicking workout to get me back on track.  You can’t out-train a bad diet, but you can turn your training up a notch!

Meatless Monday Lunch & Meal Prep

There are few constants in this world, but one I have come to expect in the 9 years I’ve lived in Oregon is beautiful, warm, summer-like weather the first weekend of May.  I know this because I typically have a Cinco de Mayo party this weekend, and  every year it’s been so warm that we’ve had to race the ice from melting in our margaritas.  I din’t have the party this year.  Mostly because I didn’t think the weather would deliver. Instead, the hubs and I went to the Portland Kentucky Derby, and today I write this post from my deck under the hot sun.   The weekend did not disappoint.
