It’s true what they say, “you can’t out-train a bad diet”. At the core of every fit individual is a healthy diet. For me that’s a diet rich in protein, carbohydrates, fat and includes a balance of indulgences, but we’ve all been on the excessive side of indulgence at one time or another. When that happens to me I believe in a good ass-kicking workout to get me back on track. You can’t out-train a bad diet, but you can turn your training up a notch!
Healthy eating is a way of life for me, and I’ve gotten good at making healthy choices despite the situation. Occasionally, however, I will find myself in a situation, typically while traveling, when I’m forced to make a few concessions. I talk a lot about balance and the importance of flexibility in any food or exercise routine, but I’ve also found that one concession will quickly lead to the next and so on. You have to find balance and hold yourself accountable. If you’re starting to feel out of balance, you probably are. That’s exactly how I felt last week in LA. My days were long between early flights and long happy hours. My food options were limited, unfamiliar, and a few times I had very few options to chose from. I came home and felt off all weekend.
Thursday morning helped combat a heavy work dinner on Wednesday. I was lucky to have a later start on Thursday and a good hotel gym. I was staying at the Aloft El Segundo – Los Angeles. When traveling for work I really enjoy Aloft Hotels. More specifically, when I’m in LA I prefer to stay at Aloft El Segundo – Los Angeles. It’s 10 minutes from the airport and Manhattan Beach with easy access to the 105 and 405 freeways. The rooms are clean, the lobby energized with live music every night, and most Aloft Hotels have a good gym.
My first meeting on wasn’t until lunch, which gave me a leisurely morning and time for a kick-ass workout. I’m sharing part of that workout with you. It’s perfect for those days when you need a killer workout that you can do right from home. No equipment needed!
I realize you might not know each exercise, especially when the same exercise can go by several names. For that reason I created a video demonstration from start to finish. Check it out on my new YouTube Channel here!
The first time through the circuit I perform each exercise just as I would do them. The second time through I show options for beginners or those who need modifications. You will see I don’t have a lot of space in my hotel room, but I still got a good workout and burned over 150 calories. Get your sweat on! You won’t regret it.
